Nigeria’s Best University UNILORIN breaks 102,050 hearts, admits only 11% of applicants

About 114,700 students applied to the University of Ilorin for admissions, but only 11% of them could secure a spot leaving over 100,000 disappointed.
As many as 102,050 of the 114,700 prospective students who applied to the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) for the 2014/2015 academic session were not offered admissions by the institution.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, said only 12,650 students were able to secure admission.
Speaking at the university’s matriculation ceremony for new students, Ambali said only 41, 470 of the applicants scored 180 marks, which is the minimum requirement for the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination screening.
Almost half of that number, 22, 601, passed the Post-UTME examinations but the university only offered admission to 12,650 of them, including 80 international students.
"The total number of admitted students were 12, 650,” Ambali said.
11%
The Vice Chancellor said UNILORIN's recent ratings as one of the best in the continent and Nigeria is the reason for the high number of applicants.
He charged the new students to obey the institution's rules and shun cultism.
